The largest ever modernisation at the University of Economics in Bratislava: an investment in the future

During the summer months, the University of Economics in Bratislava (EUBA) initiated the most extensive programme of modernisation of its academic and accommodation infrastructure. The aim of this comprehensive project is to significantly improve the study and working conditions for the entire academic community and to raise the quality of education to an international level.

For this project, EUBA received funding from the Renewal and Resilience Plan within the framework of a consortium of universities with the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava and within the call “Comprehensive Modernization of Buildings and Dormitories of Public and State Universities.”

Renovation of teaching facilities and innovation centre

The main teaching buildings V1 and V2 are undergoing extensive refurbishment, primarily aimed at improving energy efficiency. This includes a complete replacement of windows, insulation of the building envelope and reconstruction of the roof structure.

The revitalisation of the Slovak Economic Library is also part of this stage. This learning and research institution, once renovated, will provide access to extensive resources and more modern, flexible facilities suitable for work on individual and group projects.

An important novelty is the establishment of the Business Lab innovation centre, which is being built in the renovated premises of the former Ekonóm Publishing House.

Work is also underway on the Nursery School building (EUBA Kindergarten “Ecovčielka”), where significant improvements to the energy performance of the building are underway.

Improving student housing

The University was also successful in obtaining funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan for the refurbishment of the on-campus infrastructure. Since the spring, intensive reconstruction of the Student House Starohájska 4 has been underway. Funding for the renovation of the Dolnozemská Student House and Canteen has recently been approved and will start soon. From its own resources, the University plans to start the renovation of the Vlčie hrdlo Student House in the short term.

All dormitories will undergo a complete transformation, which will modernize rooms, common areas and significantly improve the thermal insulation properties of the buildings.

The facades of the Ekonóm Student House are being insulated and the balconies are being renovated. The reconstruction project of the Bellova Student House in Košice is in the preparatory phase.

The comprehensive restoration also concerns the National Cultural Monument at Konventna 1 in Bratislava, for which the University has also received support from the Restoration and Resilience Plan.

Planned investments and timeframe

The total value of the investment project exceeds EUR 30 million.

The completion of all renovation works on the university and accommodation infrastructure is scheduled for the first half of 2026.

Rector of EUBA prof. Ing. Ferdinand Daňo, PhD., emphasizes the importance of the project: “This modernisation is an investment in the future of our students and staff. We are proud to create an environment that will create a more conducive environment for fostering excellence in education and research. I believe that these changes will contribute to making the University of Economics in Bratislava even more attractive for domestic and foreign students, as well as a comfortable working environment for its employees.”

EUBA apologises to students and staff for the temporary restrictions and increased workload during the refurbishment. This short-term discomfort is a necessary part of the transformation that will bring a more comfortable and inspiring environment for academic work, study and student life.
